I graduated from San Jose state with an MFA in spatial art in 2019 and I currently reside in Gilroy, CA where I create representational ceramic sculpture of produce with agriculturally related themes that speak of farm workers, the labors they endure, and the political issues behind agriculture. My sculptures represent the crop and the soil where the crop came from and is juxtaposed in a way to elevate the soil and the crop, showing the importance of the work by the farm workers. I also make pottery for the purpose of practical function. I enjoy the process of throwing on the wheel and creating pottery for different purposes and aesthetics. Along with functional ware, I also enjoy creating the occasional big vessel that steps away from functionality and enters the realm of political meaning through its' design and added elements. Pottery is an artform that requires skill and precision and that skill and precision is translated in my sculpture. |

My art is a celebration of relationships. What connects us to our animal companions, community and the wider world. I enjoy the challenge of matching a subject to the media that best expresses what inspired me to paint it - working in Watercolor, Pastel, Oils alone or in combination. My favorite subjects are animal portraits, local Santa Cruz scenes, architecture, and landscapes. |

Since my childhood to date, my art has evolved from paper mache to murals with Bas Relief (also called Plaster Relief). It's a really unique, and sophisticated art form and technique to add to your portfolio as a professional artist. I've incorporated this technique by applying on everything from walls to wood, to create stunning details in a room, or beautiful pieces of art. My unique style has evolved for the past 30 years. I continue to creatively bring imagination to life. I believe art and artists have an ability to promote, cultivate great enthusiasm and inspiration which intrigues, challenges and offers hope. It's not just Art but, Art from the Heart. |

I have been photographing travel and landscape scenes for more than 20 years. What I enjoy most about photography is being out in our beautiful world and capturing and producing an image that reflects not just the beauty but the soul of the location. My goal is to capture the best possible images and hope they inspire and touch others. |

I have enjoyed creating various types of art throughout my life and have used it as an escape from everyday life. While I have no formal art training I have made use of many live and most recently zoom workshops with extraordinary artists. I recently had my pieces on exhibit at The Healdsburg Center Of the Arts in their juried Home exhibit as well as their juried Miniature exhibit. I find inspiration in everyday life experiences as well as in the beauty that surrounds us. I get the greatest joy when someone comments “This painting reminds me of home” or, “ It really moves me” or “ I can hear the crash of the waves and feel the ocean spray on my face." I’m looking forward to sharing my love of art with you during the Morgan Hill Open Studios weekend. |

In my digital and non-digital art practice, my purpose is to bring beauty, pleasure and interest to the beholder. I use many layers in my work because each layer is transformative and surprising. My work is characterized as intuitive because I do not begin with an end in sight but rather begin at the beginning and work to discover the end. |

Encouraged by my mother, painting and drawing have always been part of my life since I can remember. When I was twelve, I was awarded Student Artist of the Year in Ohio. I moved to California as an adult and continued to study, paint and draw; mainly watercolors. After leaving my Technology career, I made painting my full time profession. My work relies on color, form and pattern, in that order. I am best described as a colorist who blends reality and imagination; not an exact realist. My “locations” challenge perspectives in various ways, and my portraits serve to show the emotion and inner thoughts of each subject. Combining architecture and portraits in my paintings adds a dimension of humanity as well as showing how people in various locations are affected by circumstances, such as Covid-19. I hope viewers of these paintings feel recognition, even if the location is not one they have personally visited. I also leave the viewer to interpret my paintings in their own way. |

I have been creating art in some form or another for most of my life. I tend to do things for periods of time and then move on to other areas of interest, but I always come back to ceramics. I started doing ceramics almost 30 years ago when I lived in Colorado. I've gathered enough equipment to have my own studio, but learned that I prefer to work in community. I love working with ceramics artists in other studios or classes and feel that I have refined my skills enough and am proud to publicly show my work. Food and pottery happen to be my two passions. The pots I make tend to be functional and inspired by the foods that I love to prepare and serve. I feel fortunate to be able to create vessels that enhance the food being served in them. |

From a very young age, I have been drawn to painting. I have always enjoyed playing with color and using it to create a vibrant interpretation of the world I observe. I primarily work with acrylics and watercolors, but also enjoy photography. My paintings and photos often reflect places I have been or places I would like to visit one day. My style is influenced by the French Impressionists and reflects the joy I feel interpreting the wonders of nature. |

My kinetic contraptions can sharpen a pencil while forecasting your fortune or can sketch a flower for your delight and amusement. Some moving miniature sculptures feature flying dinosaurs or space battles complete with rotating rocket ships and blinking aliens fighting tiny astronauts. Other mechanistic artworks for sale might be alligator-doll speakers that play your favorite music or tube radios constructed with cow skulls that tune-in country songs. At public galleries and planetariums that have displayed my contraptions, visitors and staff describe them as whimsical and dreamlike, weird and wonderful. I believe the word that captures it best is "fun." "What's this old artist's future goal?" you ask. I envision creating a piece for a children's museum, a music box powered by pedaling a tricycle. It would be connected to a giant octopus playing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," or whatever song the kids programmed onto the music cylinder. "Unlikely," you say. "Not if you dream," I reply. |

My work explores the lines of nature and the beauty of flowers. With inspiration from hikes in the mountains or walks within neighborhoods, color, texture, and form create simple and complex dialogues in my art. As layers of acrylic paint, pencil markings, and colorful forms take shape, the viewer is lifted in spirit and introduced to the endless promises of joy and happiness. Betty Franks was born in Toronto, Canada, and raised in San Jose, California. She is a self-taught abstract artist who started painting when she turned 50. Although it seems late in life to take up painting, the timing was just right for her. After a long career in customer service management, she was ready to unleash her creative side. |

My passion for painting is wanting to share the beauty I find in nature. I have a strong desire to put onto canvas the feelings I have plein air painting beaches, hillsides, vineyards and all of nature that moves me. My hope is that you will enjoy my efforts to convey these feelings to you. I am a late comer to painting, after working in tech and other careers I found I could no longer ignore the call of painting. I’ve been studying painting for about 5 years. I enjoy painting in oil and acrylic. |

I create art because I’ve learned I must; it feeds and calms my soul. It lets my spirit soar. I am continually fascinated with the process of making an image appear three-dimensional on a flat surface. I love the interplay of light and shadow. I paint with acrylics, using an underpainting and glazing technique to achieve luminosity and depth. A wide variety of subject matter appeals to me and I have many paintings already in my head just waiting to emerge. Working from photos I have taken allows me to draw on my experience of that moment as I paint. Many of the animals I am drawn to are endangered. I hope to raise awareness of their plight through my art. I enjoy creating small, intimate portraits of my subjects as a tribute to honor our experience of life here on this awesome, mysterious, indescribably magnificent planet called Earth. |

Having grown up in Ukraine, Iryna was constantly surrounded by the loving, magnificent beauty of Western Ukraine. Western Ukraine has historically combined multiple ethnicities, forming vibrant, unique cultures and traditions. This beauty has been manifesting itself in vibrant colors and patterns, which Iryna incorporates in her laser engraved art, in close collaboration with her husband Mykola. Each piece has a story and meaning that transcends across cultures and centuries. Coming from a non-traditional artistic background, Iryna works in the technology sector of Silicon Valley building various products: from mobile apps to Virtual Reality products. “Some of the most meaningful moments of my life is seeing people’s souls light up when interacting with our art”. |

I have always considered myself an "artist"; making/creating things with my hands; sewing, ceramics, crocheting and painting (acrylic & watercolor). I have long been intrigued and fascinated by watercolor. I love the challenge of watercolor and the beautiful textures and feelings achieved with watercolor. I went to San Jose State University as an art and design major. I have continued my education by going back to college and getting a degree in Graphic Design as well as taking numerous seminars and workshops to expand my knowledge in both graphic design and water media. I am a member of the Santa Clara Watercolor Society and Valle del Sur. I was privileged to participate in the acrylic ceiling mural project at Kelly Brewery in Morgan Hill. |

I paint with traditional oils (& sometimes acrylics) on canvas. My subjects are organic realism: fauna, flora & landscape. In numerous art classes, experimenting with dozens of styles & techniques, I've used every type of mark-making tool & medium on every possible support. Fun, yes! but often slapdash. So in my studio I've returned to detailed planning of each composition, based on my own photos & drawings. Photo-darkroom training & a 30-year graphic-design career allow me to combine images and invent scenes I’m eager to paint. These slowly-realized paintings evolve as I add 35+ thin layers, until finally finished, when heart & mind achieve equal authority. My ardent aim is to create meaningful quality works, worthy of persisting beyond my lifetime. |

Though I've always hoped to consider myself as an artist only my early retirement gave me a chance to be one. For the last eight years I experiment with a free, expressive and atmospheric style in watercolors, incorporating other media if needed. I aim to capture atmosphere, mood, feelings and movement in my paintings. My watercolors became my addiction, always leading me to challenge and delightful surprise. Animals, both domestic and wild, people are my favorite subjects but in my portfolio I included landscapes, figures and nature creations. I was excited to see at the last year Morgan Hill Open Studio Event how many art lovers we have in our community. By the end of the show, I spoke to almost one hundred visitors, and found new homes for fifteen of my paintings. Thank you so much to all of you. You encouraged me to add more than 30 new paintings to my collection to share with you this year. |
