BIOGRAPHY
Denise is a self-taught artist (with an occasional workshop to help) that began painting after her retirement from laboratory medicine in 2012. She did her first piece when she found the nerve to finish a painting that her artist father began before his death. Little did she know she was beginning a new journey and following his passion as well. Denise now resides in Morgan Hill with her husband and 2 dogs after spending most of her life in Cedar Crest, NM. They love spending time with family and traveling.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My painting is impressionistic and I use exaggerated colors, broad strokes and palette knives to capture energy, movement, and expressions of domestic animals, wildlife and the natural imagery of the southwest and west coast.

biography
I was always interested in the visual medium and I started painting as a way to deal with my gradual loss of vision. I've learned that visual capability is not what makes for great art but rather showing others how to see differently has a more profound impact. Every few years, I reinvent myself as a painter based on current visual ability and my environment. I capture fleeting moments of light, atmosphere on natural landscapes, expressing the dynamism and impermanence of all things.
artist statement
I am often asked, “Sanjay, what can you see?" As an artist with gradual vision loss, my goal is not to show the world what I see. I paint to show how to appreciate people's differences differently.

Cat is a true creative at heart. Whimsical, mystical, and sometimes eccentric. She is an entrepreneur by day, a graphic designer by afternoon, and a mixed media artist by night. In between she finds time to explore the SJ art scene, punk rock shows, and play with her cat Pumpkin Doodle. Her company Urban Wildflowers Art helps other artists capitalize on their talents by producing merchandise featuring their work and also gives back to the community with programs aimed at helping kids learn coping skills through art.

BIOGRAPHY
I have been creating art in some form or another for most of my life. I tend to do things for periods of time and then move on to other areas of interest, but I always come back to ceramics. I started doing ceramics almost 30 years ago when I lived in Colorado. I've gathered enough equipment to have my own studio, but learned that I prefer to work in community. I've loved working with ceramics artists from Gavilan College and have refined my skills enough to be proud enough to publicly show my work.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Food and pottery are my two passions. The pots I make tend to be functional and inspired by the foods that I love to prepare and serve. I feel fortunate to be able to create vessels that enhance the food being served in them.

I have been drawing and painting since I was eleven years old. I am now 68. My father painted and drew as a hobby for most of his life. I was fascinated by his work and started drawing and painting when we moved to California in 1967. I studied under the mentorship of Professor Maynard D. Stewart for ten years.I took all of his classes as many times as I could. I cannot begin to explain the profound effect Mr. Stewart’s instruction had on my life. I graduated with my B.A. in Art in 1975, and my M.A. in Art in 1980.

I draw to make a connection with nature. Despite the ugliness that exists, the world can be a beautiful place. I am always amazed by the spectacular views and the subtle variations of light and color that occur in nature.

BIOGRAPHY
I retired from a career in journalism. I worked as writer and editor at publications ranging from San Francisco magazine to the San Jose Mercury newspaper. Additionally, I created kid’s science courses -- model rocketry, mechanical sculpture, code breaking -- for the Tech Museum of Innovation. I've always had a home studio. A neighbor once gave me a broken electric pencil sharpener. I fixed, modified it. This led to my first contraption—a fortune-telling sharpener. Insert pencil, my art tells your future.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My kinetic whimsical pieces incorporate my fascination with mechanics and electronics. Notions for my artworks come from life experiences. For example, “Godzilla and the Aliens Visit Paris” from my obsession with monster movies.

Some of his works were commissioned by the British Crown and are still with the Royal collection in the England. My father is also an oil painter and regularly takes commissions to date. I have however always been attracted to pencil sketches. Black and White sketches is my forte and I have recently turned professional. I loved drawing and creating from the time I could first hold a pencil and make a mark on paper. In 2001 I began showing and selling my detailed graphite drawings. I received many awards over the next decade. I began studying acrylic painting in 2011 with Bay Area artist Wayne Jiang. I learned a technique using a limited palette, under-painting, and glazing to achieve luminosity and depth. My small animal paintings have been juried into the “tiny” show at STUDIO Galley in San Francisco for the last six years.

As long back as I can remember I have thought of myself as an artist. I have been creating things with my hands since I was a very young child. It has not always been just painting however. My creative efforts have included sewing, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, furniture re-upholstery, collage with colored rice, ceramics, floral arranging, gardening, painting in watercolor, acrylic and murals. I love painting with watercolor because of watercolor's transparency and blending of colors on the paper.

BIOGRAPHY
Laura Trouard is a abstract painter base in Morgan Hill, CA. She mainly uses acrylic paints and inks on large canvases for her work, but also loves to experiment with spray paint, collage, and fabric. Her work is heavily inspired by her mental health journey as a way to express her thoughts and share her story with others in a fun, creative, way.
ARTIST STATEMENT
After being diagnosed with OCD, painting abstracts gave me a needed outlet to explore my creative side without “rules”. I love to use bright colors for whimsy, lots of texture for depth, and large canvases for that “wow” factor.
